What is a retail account in BPO?
A retail account means you support the customers of a store or online shop. You answer questions about orders, deliveries, returns, refunds and products, by phone, chat or both. If you have ever chased a late online order yourself, you already know the kind of question you will answer all day.
An account is the client program you are assigned to inside a BPO. It decides who calls you, what you are trained on and what the hiring steps test. Of 50 live call center job posts we read on JobStreet on 25 September 2026, 4 (8%) named a retail or e-commerce account. We took agent-level posts from JobStreet's "call center agent" search in listed order, plus city filters for Cebu, Davao City, Iloilo, Pampanga and Bacolod.
Those four show the range. An IBEX retail account post says no experience is required. A Sutherland online shopping post asks for hands-on experience with AI tools such as ChatGPT. A Work Avenue post in Davao asks for B2 English, the only post in all 50 that named an English level.
What makes retail harder: volume. Sale days and holidays bring spikes of the same questions, and upset customers whose package is late. You need patience and a calm, clear way of saying what happens next.
Which BPO accounts are hiring the most right now?
Healthcare was the account named most often in the posts we read, in 10 of 50 (20%). Financial accounts, including banking and insurance, came next with 6 (12%). Almost half the posts, 23 of 50 (46%), did not name an account at all.
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Not stated in the post | 23 posts (46%) |
| Healthcare | 10 posts (20%) |
| Financial (banking, insurance) | 6 posts (12%) |
| Retail and e-commerce | 4 posts (8%) |
| Other (automotive, order management, property, language school) | 4 posts (8%) |
| Travel | 2 posts (4%) |
| Tech | 1 post (2%) |

When a post does not name the account, you usually find out at the interview or after training. That is normal, and the section on asking for an account below covers what you can do about it.
What is a healthcare account in BPO?
A healthcare account means you help patients, health plan members or care providers. Typical work is questions about benefits, eligibility, claims and appointments. Some accounts are local HMOs: an iCare HMO post hires for a "Local Healthcare Account".
The posts show how wide it is. A Carelon post in Iloilo covers health insurance benefits, eligibility and claims by phone and written replies. An IBM post in Naga runs an internal caregiver support line with clinical questions and health record upkeep. A LogiScale healthcare post works 9 pm to 6 am Philippine time.
What makes healthcare harder: privacy rules and new terms. When a Philippine BPO handles claims or billing for a US health plan, it is a "business associate" under US law, defined as anyone who "creates, receives, maintains, or transmits protected health information" for functions "including claims processing or administration ... billing, benefit management" (45 CFR 160.103). In practice, expect privacy training and strict rules about what you may say and to whom. The upside is size: CITEM reports the Philippine healthcare services industry employs 190,000 full-time staff and earned US$4.2 billion in 2024 (CITEM, HIMSS 2025).
Of the 10 healthcare posts, 8 were voice roles and only 1 (Carelon) mixed phone with written replies. If you want healthcare without the phone, search for claims or back office roles by name. Healthcare posts also showed the most night work of any account: 5 said shifting schedules and 3 said night or graveyard shift.
What is a financial account in BPO?
A financial account means you support the customers of a bank, card company, lender or insurer. You handle balance and payment questions, card problems, disputes and policy questions, and on some accounts collections. In our sample, all 6 financial posts were voice or did not say.
Some are in-house: a BDO Unibank post in Davao hires customer service officers for its own contact center and asks for a four-year college degree. Others are outsourced, such as an EXL property insurance account on a day shift in Quezon City.
What makes financial harder: rules on money and card data. The card industry standard, PCI DSS, applies to "all entities involved in payment card processing", including service providers (PCI Security Standards Council). The Philippine Data Privacy Act adds that a company processing personal information for a client "shall comply with all the requirements of this Act" (RA 10173, Section 14). For you, that means following scripts and security checks exactly, even with a caller who is angry about their money. Financial posts also asked for experience more often: 3 of the 6 set a minimum.
What other accounts will you see in job posts?
Beyond retail, healthcare and financial, you will see travel, tech support, telco and back office accounts. In our sample, 2 posts named travel, 1 named tech, and 4 named other kinds of work such as an Australian car dealership, order management, US property management and a language school.
- Travel: bookings, changes and cancellations for airlines, hotels or tour companies.
- Tech support: walking a customer through fixing a device, app or internet connection. It suits people who like solving problems step by step.
- Telco: billing, plan changes and keeping customers from cancelling. Some carry sales targets.
- Back office and non-voice: email, chat, data entry and processing with no calls. The guide to non-voice call center jobs explains what that work involves and how it is tested.
Which BPO account is easiest for beginners?
In the posts we read, the most beginner-friendly posts were the ones that did not name an account. 19 of those 23 posts (83%) accepted applicants with no experience. Healthcare accepted beginners in 4 of 10 posts, and financial in 3 of 6.
| Item | Value |
|---|---|
| Account not stated (19 of 23) | 83% |
| Financial (3 of 6) | 50% |
| Healthcare (4 of 10) | 40% |
| All 50 posts (31 of 50) | 62% |
Base: posts that say no experience needed, newbies or fresh graduates welcome, or experience preferred but not required. Retail (4 posts), travel, tech and other are left out because each has under 5 posts. Source: TrabahoFit count of 50 live JobStreet call center agent posts, read 25 September 2026
Retail had only 4 posts, so we do not rank it: 2 of them said openly that no experience was needed. Treat "easiest" as a question about the post in front of you. Check whether it welcomes beginners, what education it accepts, and whether it names a test.
Which account fits you?
Match the account to what you are good at. If you stay calm with upset people, voice retail and healthcare suit you. If you like fixing things, go for tech support. If your writing is stronger than your speaking, ask for chat or back office work. The last column shows which job to pick in the quiz for each account.
| Account and what you handle | Skills it needs | What makes it harder | Job to pick in the quiz |
|---|---|---|---|
| Retail: orders, deliveries, returns, refunds | Patience, clear English, typing for chat | Busy sale seasons, upset buyers | Customer Service Representative; Chat and Email Support Agent |
| Healthcare: benefits, eligibility, claims, appointments | Accuracy, confidentiality, learning insurance terms | Privacy rules, new vocabulary, night or shifting schedules | Customer Service Representative (voice); Chat and Email Support Agent (claims, back office) |
| Financial: cards, payments, disputes, insurance, collections | Composure, following security steps exactly | Card and data rules, angry callers, more posts ask for experience | Customer Service Representative; Outbound Sales Agent (collections) |
| Tech support: devices, apps, internet | Explaining steps simply, basic troubleshooting | Problems you cannot see, long calls | Technical Support Representative |
| Telco: billing, plan changes, cancellations | Handling complaints, persuading | Retention or sales targets | Customer Service Representative; Outbound Sales Agent |
| Back office: email, data entry, processing | Typing speed and accuracy, written English | Repetitive work, output targets | Chat and Email Support Agent; Virtual Assistant |
If you are not sure which job you want, pick “not sure” in the quiz above and get a training plan. Then use this table to pick the account to ask for.
Does the account change your pay or schedule?
In the posts we read, the account made little difference to pay. Healthcare was the only account type with at least 5 posts that stated a salary: 6 posts, with a median range of ₱20,000 to ₱24,775 a month, close to the ₱20,000 to ₱25,000 median across all 36 posts that stated pay.
Schedule depends more on the client's time zone. US business hours fall at night in the Philippines, and every account must pay at least 10% extra for hours worked between 10 pm and 6 am under Article 86 of the Labor Code. Day shifts exist but were rare: 1 of the 6 financial posts, the EXL property insurance account, advertised one. For the full pay picture, including 13th month and what comes off, see the call center salary guide.
How do you ask for a specific account when you apply?
Say which account you want in your application and again in the interview, and give one reason tied to your skills. The employer assigns accounts based on openings and your test results, so treat it as a preference. It helps most at sites that hire for several accounts at once.
Search by account name
Add the account to your search, such as "healthcare account" or "retail account". Almost half of posts do not name one, so also read the job duties.
Name it in your resume summaryResume
One line: the account you want and the skill that fits it, for example "calm with upset customers" for retail.
Say it in the interviewInterview
When asked why this job, name the account and your reason. Keep it to two sentences.
Ask before you signOffer
Ask which account the offer is for, the shift, and whether you could move accounts later.
The employer decides the final account. These steps make your preference clear.
