Non Voice Call Center Jobs in the Philippines: What They Are and Who They Suit

A non-voice call center job means you help customers by chat, email or social media, or do back office work, instead of taking phone calls. Employers screen you on typing speed and written English. Pure non-voice roles are rare: of 50 live JobStreet call center posts we read on 25 September 2026, none was chat or email only, and 11 were blended, mixing phone with chat or email. Blended posts paid the same median range as voice posts, ₱20,000 to ₱25,000 a month. One employer, TTEC, asks chat applicants for 35 WPM typing with accuracy and a written English test.

What is a non-voice call center job?

A non-voice call center job means you help customers in writing, by chat, email or social media messages, with no phone calls. Employers screen you on typing speed and written English instead of how you sound on the phone. Some non-voice roles are back office work, such as processing claims or orders, with no customer contact at all.

Job classifications treat chat and phone support as one occupation. The European skills classification ESCO says contact centre information clerks answer client queries "using the telephone or electronic communications media such as email" (ESCO, ISCO-08 group 4222). The pay rules are the same too: night shift differential under Article 86 of the Labor Code applies to every employee, voice or not.

What does a non-voice agent do all day?

You read a customer's message, find the answer in the company's system, and write a clear reply. On chat you often handle more than one customer at a time. On email you work through a queue with time targets. The channel changes the pace:

TypeWhat you doWhat it tests
Chat supportLive written conversations, often several at onceTyping speed, fast and correct replies
Email supportLonger written replies from a queueGrammar, tone, following templates
Social media careReplying to messages and comments on a brand's pagesShort, polite public replies
Back officeProcessing claims, orders or data with no customer contactAccuracy, attention to detail

A short example of a chat reply that works: "Thanks for waiting, Anna. Your order shipped today and should arrive in 3 to 5 days. Here is your tracking number." It greets, answers, and gives the next step, with no spelling mistakes. That is most of what the written test checks.

How many call center jobs are non-voice?

Very few are purely non-voice. Of 50 live call center job posts we read on JobStreet on 25 September 2026, none was chat or email only. 11 (22%) were blended, meaning the role mixes phone with chat or email, or hires for voice and non-voice together. 29 (58%) were voice.

How we read them: we took agent-level posts from JobStreet's "call center agent" search in listed order, plus city filters for Cebu, Davao City, Iloilo, Pampanga and Bacolod, until we had 50.

Watch the job title. One post titled "Call Center Agent (Non-Voice)" says it hires for voice and non-voice, with non-voice slots limited. If you want no calls at all, search for "chat support", "email support" or "back office" as well, and ask in the interview which channel you will work on.

What is the difference between voice, non-voice and blended accounts?

Voice accounts are phone calls. Non-voice accounts are written: chat, email or back office. Blended accounts mix the two, so you may still take calls even when a post says "non-voice" in the title.

Blended roles in our sample include a Carelon healthcare role handling insurance questions by phone and written replies, and a dnata technical role giving help by phone, chat and email. The guide to retail, healthcare and financial BPO accounts explains what each client program involves.

Does non-voice pay less than voice?

In the posts we read, blended roles paid the same as voice roles. The median posted range was ₱20,000 to ₱25,000 a month for both: 21 voice posts and 8 blended posts stated pay. We have no pure non-voice posts, so we cannot say how chat-only or email-only pay compares.

Many posted figures include allowances and incentives on top of basic pay. The call center salary guide shows how to read a package, and what night differential and 13th month pay add.

What are the requirements for a non-voice job?

Expect to be asked for a senior high school diploma or some college, a minimum typing speed, and strong written English. TTEC's chat support roles in Pampanga are one clear example: a Senior High School diploma or at least two years of college, "a typing speed of 35 WPM with accuracy", and written English for live chat (TTEC Jobs, 6 August 2025). That is one employer's bar, and others set their own.

The 11 blended posts in our sample were open to beginners: 7 accepted applicants with no experience, either openly or with experience only preferred. For the lowest education accepted, 5 took a high school or senior high school diploma, 3 asked for college level or a degree, and 3 did not say.

How do you pass the typing test and the written English test?

Practice both every day for a week or two before you apply. For typing, work on speed and accuracy together, since TTEC's bar is 35 WPM "with accuracy". For writing, practice short replies that greet, answer and give a next step with correct grammar.

Typing speeds are rarely printed in posts. In our 50, only 1 post (2%) stated one, and it was a voice job: ConnectUs asked for at least 40 WPM for a work-from-home agent role.

  • Take a timed typing test daily and track your words per minute and your error count.
  • Write five sample replies a day to common questions: late order, refund, password reset.
  • Read each reply out loud once to catch missing words and wrong verb tenses.

The call center assessment and typing test guide walks through each test type with practice.

Can you do non-voice work from home?

Sometimes, but most posts in our sample did not offer it. None of the 11 blended posts was fully work from home: 4 said onsite, 1 hybrid, and 6 did not say. Across all 50 posts, 3 (6%) were fully work from home and 6 (12%) hybrid.

Remote non-voice work exists. Because remote offers are harder to check in person, test every one against the warning signs below. The guide to call center work from home jobs covers what to expect from remote roles, including equipment you may have to supply.

Is non-voice the right fit for you?

Non-voice suits you if your written English is stronger than your spoken English, or if phone calls drain you. It asks for fast, careful typing and the focus to handle several chats or a long email queue.

It suits you less if you type slowly and do not want to practice, or if you like talking people through problems live on a call. If that is you, a voice role may be the better start, as the guide to becoming a call center agent explains. Pick chat and email support in the quiz above to get a training plan for it: what to train first and the answers that get applicants rejected.

Where do you find non-voice openings, and how do you spot fake ones?

Search the big job boards and employer career pages for "non voice", "chat support", "email support" and "back office". Apply only where you can name the employer and check it exists. A legitimate employer does not ask you to pay to apply.

The law backs this up for agencies too. Under Article 32 of the Labor Code, a fee-charging employment agency "shall not be charged any fee until he has obtained employment through its efforts or has actually commenced employment", with a receipt for any fee.

Warning signs in a non-voice job offer

  • You are asked to pay for training, a kit, a test or "processing" before you start.
  • The recruiter only talks on a messaging app and cannot name the company or an office.
  • "Typing jobs" that pay per task or ask you to recruit other people.
  • A job offer with no interview or test at all.
  • Pay far above what similar posts offer, with no company name attached.

Posts from "Private Advertiser" hide the employer's name. They can be legitimate: 3 of our 50 posts came from Private Advertiser accounts. Ask for the company name before you share ID documents.

Frequently asked questions

What is non-voice in a call center?

Non-voice means you help customers in writing, by chat, email or social media, or do back office processing, with no phone calls. Hiring tests typing speed and written English.

Is non-voice easier than voice?

It is different. You avoid phone calls, but you may handle several chats at once and every reply is in writing, so spelling and grammar mistakes show. It suits people whose writing is stronger than their speaking.

What typing speed do non-voice accounts require?

Each employer sets its own. TTEC asks chat support applicants for 35 WPM with accuracy. In 50 live JobStreet posts we read, only 1 stated a typing speed: 40 WPM, for a voice role.

Does non-voice pay less than voice?

Can I apply for non-voice with no experience?

Yes, many roles accept beginners. TTEC says no BPO experience is needed for its Pampanga chat roles, and 7 of the 11 blended posts we read accepted applicants with no experience.
